TIPS FOR TRAVEL WITH PETS
If you are planning a family trip that includes a furry family member, your pet, follow these tips. Your dog can’t repeatedly ask, “are we there yet?” but he can complain in messier ways.
1. Container. Pets should travel in a well-ventilated crate or carrier, secured in the car so it won’t slide around at a quick stop. The crate should be large enough for the animal to stand, sit, lie down and turn around.
2. Test drive. Take some test runs to get your pet acclimated to car rides. Start with a series of short drives and gradually lengthen the time spent in the car.
3. Feeding. Don’t feed a pet in a moving vehicle. Feed her a light meal three or four hours before you leave.
4. Hydrate. When it comes to water, bring your own, preferably tap water from home stored in plastic jugs. Drinking water from an area he’s not used to could result in tummy upset for your pet.
5. Packing. Bring everything your pet needs for the trip, including food, bowl, leash, a waste scoop, litter box, plastic bags, grooming supplies, medication and a favorite toy. If you’re traveling across state lines, bring along your pet’s rabies vaccination record. Some states require this proof at interstate crossings.
6. Identify. Before you leave, consider having your pet microchipped for identification. Make a temporary travel tag made with your cell phone number, destination phone number and any other relevant contact information.

The Path of Least Regret
When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, there wasn’t even a thought about whether I’d lose my breasts. I figured the surgeon would simply go in, remove the tumor, close me back up and that would be the end of it. Boy, was I naive. When they discovered my left breast was full of disease, a mastectomy was certain. Then the doctors asked whether I wanted to keep the other breast, the healthy one. What was I going to do? How would I ever make this choice? I started exploring cancer websites and talking with some of my old colleagues in the news business (I was a news anchor/reporter for 17 years) who were in contact with some of the leading experts in breast cancer research, from Stanford to Johns Hopkins. Every conversation left me feeling confused about what I should do. My own team of doctors remained cautious about weighing in, as they knew it was a personal decision only I could make. I felt frustrated when my own husband wouldn’t offer an opinion, “Marilyn, this has to come from you and I will be totally supportive of whatever you decide.” Finally, I turned to a friend who works with breast cancer patients. I asked her how other women come to these resolutions. Her response was life changing, “Marilyn, follow the path of least regret.” I was inspired. Her advice was profound, yet uncomplicated. I repeated it over and over, “Follow the path of least regret.”
When I applied it to my own personal situation… 40 years old, with two young kids… it became clear, for me, that I should undergo a bilateral mastectomy. Here’s what’s stunning about those words: For another 40-year old mother of two, the path of least regret might lead her to a less invasive approach. She might choose to keep her breasts. It’s a personal decision that should not be judged. No praise, no blame. It’s an intimate process. For me… it’s a navigational tool I continue to use in all areas of my life, which is helping me to be more honest with myself about what’s truly important. Still, I don’t forget the importance of empowering myself with knowledge and staying on top of the latest research. You can too… as there are so many invaluable resources available online. Here’s a couple to consider: One is for the National Cancer Institute. The other is Mayo Clinic, which will connect you with one of the most comprehensive sites linked to an actual cancer center. Check in next month for more of my story and helpful tips as you continue on your own healing journey.

PREGNANCY CORNER
Am I Pregnant? Knowing the First Signs of Pregnancy
Most women know that the absence of menstruation is a key sign of pregnancy, but it’s important to be aware of other indicators. Knowing you are pregnant sooner affords you an early start on a healthy regimen. That’s better for you and your baby. Signs of pregnancy include:
* Absence of menstruation
* Morning sickness (nausea and/or vomiting any time of day)
* Frequent urination
* Tender, swollen breasts
* Darkening of the areola (area around the nipple) and raised glands around the nipple
* Blue and pink lines under breasts and on abdomen
* Food cravings
There may be signs on the above list that make you wonder if you might be pregnant. When you’re waiting to know if you’re pregnant, one day of not knowing can feel like a lifetime. If you think you might be pregnant, try the FIRST RESPONSE® Early Result Pregnancy Test, which detects the pregnancy hormone six days before your missed period. Schedule an appointment with your doctor to confirm the results, and always check with your physician regarding any issues concerning your health. Knowing sooner is important.

“Time to Hustle!”
Have you signed up for any of Tory Johnson’s upcoming Spark & Hustle Conferences? You may know Tory from Good Morning America -- she’s a great champion for women everywhere, which is evident in every aspect of her events. I invite you to attend one of these amazing, jam-packed conferences designed with the small entrepreneur’s success in mind. I was a guest panelist at the L.A. conference last year, and was so impressed with the quality of speakers and attendees that I am going to attend again this year. And, I would love for you to do the same so you, too, can reap the rewards.
Last year, not only did I benefit from the top notch speakers in attendance, but I gained valuable relationships that have resulted in Psi Bands acquiring an international distributor and a major national account.
While I would love to see you in L.A. on May 31, if you can’t attend that event, I would encourage you to choose from one of the other 19 cities/dates. The events are already filling up and they are expected to sell out. Early bird pricing is available for single tickets (only $77) and pairs ($134).
For overall conference details, click here.
When you sign up, please include PSI BANDS in the box where it asks how you heard about the event.
